Privacy Policy

While GivChalk is in gratitude-letters mode, sending a letter is free and non-monetary. We collect the letter text, an optional signature name, and nothing else from senders — no account or payment details are required.

• Letter text and signature are visible to the teacher the letter is addressed to once it's approved.
• Every letter is reviewed by a human moderator before delivery; rejected letters are not shown to the teacher.
• We never share your email or contact details with the teacher — senders stay anonymous unless they sign their name.
• When we have a contact email on file for a teacher, we email them a notification that a gratitude letter arrived; the email contains the letter text.

• Gift senders: the gift amount, your gratitude note, and the email and payment details you give to our payment processor. We do not store card numbers.
• Teachers: name, school, district, city, state, subject, grade level, and teaching history. Contact email and payout details are stored separately and are never publicly readable.
• Account holders: email, display name, and optional avatar.

Teachers receive the amount and your note. Your name, email, and payment information are never shared with them. Anything you write in a note is visible to the recipient, so leave out details you don't want revealed.

To deliver gifts and notes, verify teacher identity, process payouts and refunds, prevent abuse, send transactional email, and operate the site. We do not sell personal information and we do not run advertising trackers.

We rely on Stripe for payments, Supabase (via Lovable Cloud) for our database and authentication, and Resend for transactional email. Each processes data only to provide those services.

Teacher profiles are public once approved. Contact emails, payout methods and handles, payout notes, and user profile records are restricted by database access rules to the teacher who claimed the profile, the person who submitted it, and administrators.

We keep gift and payout records — including the gratitude note attached to a gift and an append-only history of each gift's status changes (received, approved, refunded, paid out) — for 7 years, the standard retention period for financial records. This history is never edited or deleted, so we can resolve disputes and account accurately for every dollar.

Teachers may request removal of their profile, and anyone may request deletion of their account data, by emailing support@givchalk.com. We honor requests within 30 days, except where records must be retained for financial or legal reasons.

GivChalk is not intended for anyone under 18, and you must be 18 or older to send a gift. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
